The Inside Scoop

For our own unique flavor of ice cream, we wanted to incorporate ingredients that have meaning for our college, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. We decided to name our flavor of ice cream “The Inside Scoop”, a pun for how journalists find “the scoop” about what is going on.

We then thought about how we could incorporate the news into our flavor and discussed how, when, and where people consume the news. We know that many people enjoy reading or watching the news in the morning, specifically while eating breakfast, and brainstormed what flavor we could make that would be tied to breakfast.

We decided that a coffee flavoring with physical donut chunks would be a good representation of when people consume their news, in the morning over coffee and breakfast. We also all enjoyed the idea of a coffee flavor because media often creates “buzz”, similar to how caffeine does.

The Perfect Flavor

The Inside Scoop is a coffee based ice cream with chunks of chocolate donuts folded into it. Upon creating our espresso ice cream mixture, we had 6 different combinations of donuts and ice cream to choose from.

Our group taste tested each of the 6 combinations and after some discussion about which flavor was the best, we came to a decision: the coffee with bite-sized chocolate donut pieces. We thought it was the perfect balance of coffee ice cream and donut to represent our idea behind the flavor- breakfast served best with news.

Watch our group taste test the six different combinations of flavors and determine the final flavor!
