Buckingham Palace 

History

Through this arch we see the brautiful and historical Buckingham Palace.  Buckingham palace is known as the official residence and adminstrative headquarters to the reigning Monarch Britian makking it one of this most well known and historical landmarks in the UK.  The palace's history begins in the early 18th century when it was previously referred to as "Buckingham House".  The palace was contructed in1703 and bought by King George in 1763 as a residence for his wife, Queen Charolette. One of the many reason the palace was purchased was because it was convieniently located near St James palace which at the time was the officail residence of the reigning monarch.  While the palace had been aquired by the monarchy for nearly 100 years, it was not official royal residence until queen Victoria decided to reside in the palace.  In the 19th century architect John Nash remodeled parts of the palace.  The most notable addition made in his remodel was the beautiful balcony in the centre of the palace where the royals have made numerous public appearences. Today, the palace holds a whopping 52 royal and guest bedrooms and 775 total rooms throughout the palace.

Changing of the guard Ceremony

The changing of the guard ceremony is an enourmous spectacle that has drawn enourmous crowds in the royal mall for centuries.  The ceremony is is held to symbolize the transfer of responsibility at the royal palce from one guard to the next.  The history of the ceremony dates back to a midevil monarch and is one of the longest lasting traditions in the monarchs history.  The ceremony serves as a testiment to the rich history of the monarchy along with its everylasting traditions. 

World War II Bombing

During World War II, buckingham palace was hit by a total of 8 bombs sent by the German military.  Buckinghma palace was one of many targets on british soil hit by boms on this day.  Historians beleieve the palace was bombed because qeen elizabeth and charles were very public with the fact that they would stay in the palace and remain on British soil during the war.  The did this to represent strength and unity throughout their nation and refused to leave the U.K to find safety.  Their resilliance and determination motivated brits and other nations of the allied forces to remain unified and show no fear. 

William And Kates Reception

Following William and Kates wedding ceremony at Westminister abbey, Queen Elizabeth held their wedding reception at Buckingham Palace to showcase the newlyweds to the citiczens of the U.K.  One of the most poplualr photographs taken of william and Kate on their wedding day took place on the infamous balcony above the plalace, facing the royalk mall where spectators gathered to celebrate their new marriage.

Buckingham Palace has been featured in many films and is used to represent Londons historical culture and history. Films that have been made on the Buckingham Palace grounds include "Victoria (2019)", "Ghandi" (1982), "National Treasurer Book Of Secrets" (2007), "the Queen" (2007) and many more.  

Televison

Buckingham Palace has also made numerous appearances in television series over the past few decades.  Some notable series where the Palace is featured include "Victoria" (2016-2019) and "The Prisoner" (1967-1968). 

News Coverage

The news and media have extensively covered Buckingham Palace. These events include royal wedding receptions, speeches and public sightings from the royals, and national ceremonies. One of the most infamaous events covered on the property was Queen Victorias first public appearence.

Buckingham Palace is a place with a rich history and a huge cultural significance directly tied to the monarchy. As we looked through this arch, we saw the history and cultural impact that this place has had on the monarchy and the world. These historical events have ingrained Westminster Abbey into the nation and made it a historical landmark for centuries, becoming one of the great tourist destinations in the world. The medias representation of Buckingham Palace have contributed to its prominence and elite stature in London. The media has spread awareness about Buckingham Palace and it's historical importance. From the original purchase of the palace by King George, to queen victoria decding the reside there, Buckingham Palace has loads of historical signifigance for the U.K and the entire world and will continue to hold its high stature and beauty for generations to come.
