LUKE KUENSTLER

My Skills & Experience

ABOUT ME

My name is Luke Kuenstler, and I am a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from Los Angeles. I am currently a junior studying to get my degree with a major in advertising and public relations and a minor in entrepreneurship. Over this past summer, I began my first internship in advertising. I worked as an intern at BYGMusic and was on their artist relationship team. This internship opened my eyes to the advertising field and showed me the path I want to follow after college. Each day, I was doing something new and exciting, which solidified what I want to do once I graduate. This internship showed me the advertising path and what my dream is for after college. I want to work for another booking agency and hopefully, one day be able to start my own company.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy going up to the mountains and snowboarding. I have always loved snowboarding because of the feeling of freedom you get when you are riding the slopes. Snowboarding helps me put my worries behind me and live in the current moment.

Throughout this course, I learned a lot about writing and how to apply it to the advertising and public relations field. This course taught me about writing and how I can effectively use it in different ways in the area of work I want to do. I had taken writing and AP classes before, where I learned mainly about news copywriting. This class opened my eyes to the other ways advertising or public affairs specialist use writing in their fields. One of the important things I learned in this class is how to use multimedia writing styles and tactics effectively. For each module, we would use a different writing tactic to complete the assignment goal effectively. We used many different writing styles throughout this class, such as formal writings, second-person narration and the inverted pyramid style. I learned how to use these styles effectively and where to apply them in the real world. I intend to use what I learned immediately and will continue using these lessons as I move into the professional world. I have an internship where I write a lot of emails to musicians and managers. I will use my new skillset to effectively reach out to people in a legal matter through email. Another way I will use the information I learned in this class is to decide what I want to do in the future. Since coming to UNL, my interest in writing has grown, but last year when I took an AP-style writing class, we only wrote news stories throughout the year. This hurt my interest in writing because we only wrote about current events. Then when I finally took this class, we were using the same writing tactics, but instead, we were covering a wide variety of different story formats and other uses for writing. This class sparked my interest in writing and showed me I could have fun while I do it if I am interested in what I write about. Throughout this semester, I gained a lot of new skills and became a more effective writer. The format of this class was my favorite part of this class because we were not just lectured on the topics but instead got assignments to help us learn these tactics. I got to experience the different types of writings an advertiser might do, all while learning how to become a more effective writer. This class taught me much about who I am and what I want to do with my life after college. The year before this, I began separating from the idea of me ever becoming a writer, but my mindset has shifted. I now know the different aspects of writing that are in the advertising and public relations field. Through learning how to become an influential writer, I now see that if I continue growing my skillset, I can be a writer in the future. This class taught me how to be an effective writer, and by continuing to develop and hone my skillset, I can become a distinguished writer worldwide.
